Called By Name
A simple path from an empty roster to knowing every face by name.
Start here — first-time setup
Do this once. About three minutes. You can change any of it later.
- 1
Open More
Tap More in the bottom bar. This is your training-center desk: name, classes, backup, and this guide.
- 2
Type your name
Under Teacher & training center, enter the name youth and families hear from you.
- 3
Type your training center
The place you teach or coach. This label shows on the roster. It is not sent anywhere.
- 4
Pick a look
Light, Dark, or System. School-bus yellow stays either way.
- 5
Add your first class
Period, Name, Grade level, Room, Year. Tap Add class. Start with one class — English 9, Period 3, Room B214 is enough.
- 6
Optional: try the sample
Load sample class fills a practice roster so you can tap around. When you are ready for real youth, tap Clear this device, then add your own class again.
- You can Edit or Remove a class later. Youth stay on the device; they just lose that class chip.
- Save a backup after your first real roster. More → Save / share backup. Keep the file on a USB drive or a private Drive folder.
Workflow: add a person
Goal on day one: a face, the name you will say out loud, and one memory. The rest can wait.
- 1
Tap Add youth
Yellow bar, top right. Or the empty-roster button. A blank card opens.
- 2
Photo
Upload photo from the camera roll. A yearbook-style picture works best (face fills the frame). No photo yet? Skip it — an illustration holds the seat until you have one.
- 3
The name you will say
First name and Last name. Preferred name is what you call them. Pronunciation is how it sounds (tap the speaker on their card later). Nickname is the short name they use.
- 4
Park them in a class
Tap the class chip. Add Grade. Youth ID only if your center uses one.
- 5
One memory cue
A single line that makes the face stick. Example: “Red backpack, soccer, laughs at puns.” Save youth.
- 6
Family when you have it
Add guardian: name, relationship, phone, email. Mark Primary. Preferred contact is Phone, Text, or Email. You can add a second guardian. Come back after Back-to-School night if you need to.
- Sports, work, hobbies, goals, allergies, and seating notes make the next week easier — add them when you hear them, not all at once.
- Only save Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or other links a family gave you. Do not look up accounts of minors.
- Tap the youth on the roster any time → Edit to change anything, including the photo.
Workflow: learn their names
Five minutes before class, on the bus, or while the room fills. Missed faces come back sooner.
- 1
Open Practice
Bottom bar → Practice. Choose the class at the top so you only drill that room.
- 2
Name drill
You see a face (or a name). Say it out loud. Tap Reveal. Then grade yourself.
- 3
Grade the card
Again — you missed it; it returns soon. Good — you got it. Easy — rock solid. Honest grades teach the roster faster than rushing.
- 4
Hear the name
Tap the speaker to hear the pronunciation you stored. If it is wrong, Edit the youth and fix Pronunciation.
- 5
Conference cards
Switch from Name drill to Conference. One youth at a time: photo, name, family, memory cue. Use this the night before parent conferences.
- 6
Walk the room
Open Room. Pick the class. Tap a desk, assign a youth. Clearing a seat is the same tap. Walking the seating chart is the second way names stick.
- More → Practice mode: Mixed (names and faces), Name from face, or Face from name.
- Dates shows a yearbook grid and birthdays in the next two weeks. A “happy birthday, Maya” at the door is half the job.
- After a call or conference, open the youth → Family log → one-line summary. You can Edit or Remove a log entry later.
Keep the roster safe
Everything lives on this device. You own the files.
- 1
Backup
More → Save / share backup. JSON file. Photos travel with it. Optional passphrase. Put a copy on a USB drive or a private cloud folder.
- 2
Restore
More → Restore from file. Leave Merge on to keep youth already on the device. Turn Merge off only when you want this file to replace everything.
- 3
Spreadsheet
CSV import/export is for names, grade, birthday, sports, parent phone. Photos stay in the JSON backup, not CSV.
- Treat this roster like an education record. Lock the device. Do not upload profiles of minors to a public cloud without your district’s guidance.
- Public web lookup on a youth card searches the open web and X. It never logs into Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. Only run it with a legitimate educational reason.
